Priests forbidden to drink intoxicating liquor when they serve

Then the Lord spoke to Aaron, saying: “Do not drink wine or intoxicating drink, you, nor your sons with you, when you go into the tabernacle of meeting, lest you die. It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations, 10 that you may distinguish between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean, 11 and that you may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the Lord has spoken to them by the hand of Moses.”

Leviticus 10:8-11 NKJV

Comment:

We wonder whether Nadab and Abihu had been drinking alcohol before they offered strange fire in Leviticus 10:1, and that this is the reason why YHWH speaks directly to Aaron at this point with this specific commandment. We have made it amber because it is so specific to Aaron and his sons and there is currently no earthly tabernacle, however we do think that there may be a green principle included here ie we should also be careful about when we drink alcohol, as it will dull our senses and make us less able to discern what is good and what is not good.
